Our positive and challenging teaching programs and ethos encourage all students to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and values to become successful, confident, and creative individuals. Students have the opportunity to participate in regional gifted and talented programs and students who need extra support in their literacy development are supported through specialist programs within the school. Such programs include MultiLit and MiniLit; research-based programs which are delivered one-to-one to ensure success. We have a dedicated student services team comprising of a deputy principal, school psychologist and chaplain who provide a pastoral care program for students with special educational needs, and who assist in identifying pathways for further support.
We are proud of our reputation in offering a diverse range of subjects including music, Italian and physical education, all taught by specialist teachers. We have an active school choir who participate in state-wide events and perform in the local community. Our students have the opportunity to participate in team sports against other local schools and have access to a range of specialist sport programs over the course of each year.
Camboon Primary School has a diverse group of learners, from 42 different language backgrounds. We have a dedicated teacher for students who speak English as an additional language, who provides support directly to students and to teachers for planning. Camboon Primary school has a strong ethos of being a courteous and considerate learning community where each child is treated as a valued individual. Our school motto of “Courtesy and Consideration” is enacted through the adoption of high quality mental health and well-being programs such as Bounce Back and Challenges and Choices. We are also a Waterwise school and are a part of the CHAT (Changing Habits, Acting Together) program for which we hold a bronze accreditation.
Students are presented with merit and endeavour awards for demonstrating positive attributes both in the classroom and the playground, and special recognition is also given for academic, artistic and sporting excellence and effort. Incursions and excursions that further enhance student learning and participation are included in our busy calendar of events.
The Camboon Primary School Board is the governing body of the school and consists of parents, school staff and a community representative. The role of the School Board is to ensure the school meets the goals set out in documents such as the Business Plan and Strategic and Operational plans as well as to sign-off on the school’s Performance and Delivery Agreement. The School Board has a strong relationship with the school community and leads conversations about key issues and challenges in education.
Recent upgrades to the Library facilities have seen a modern well-resourced space built for students to use as a multipurpose building. The Camboon Parents and Citizen’s Association (P&C) are a dedicated group of parents who work tirelessly to support the endeavours of the school. They run a successful canteen 5 days a week, a uniform shop, weekly school banking and a variety of other social and fundraising events during the year which benefit the students, the school and the local community.
